Ay Up Me Ducks! If it is one thing that I really look forward to at Christmas it is Nottingham's pantomimes. Last year is very different but the Nottingham Playhouse panto is here and apart from not being sat in the audience However, this year WE ARE BACK and the best news ever that we are now Let you all come in and join in the actions by sitting in front of me "Oh dear Oh dear" Sit back, Relax and Enjoy The Show!.
A really traditional panto with some modern touches, thanks to the script, written, as well as directed by Bill Buckhurst. Bill has kept the trademark Kenneth Allan-Taylor lines and feel, and blended it with some fresh corny jokes. Watch out for the boomerang gag!
Everything you have come to expect from the Playhouse pantos is there. Talking Clocks, Talking Teapots, Talking Candles, Great sets, designed by Morgan Large, choreography by Alistair David, and what would we do without Uncle Johnny Morton as Musical Director. There is a section which is orchestrated and reminded me of all of my favourite instrumental sections of every old Christmas songs that I can remember. Lovely and lush.
There were four bunny rabbits came during the show which were amazing to see plus amazing young dancers who were doing their dance to open the show with amazing song.
The Dame is wonderfully brought to life by Nottingham panto legend John Elkington as Madame Fifi with some brillant scenes with him being so funny with the audience as he picked one of women in second row with a large cleaning duster and tickle her. Plus of course those crazy costume designs! Just clock what he wears for the wedding scenes at the end.
The mix of songs is well balanced with more than a couple of nods to John Elkington recent "LadBaby" I love sausage roll which got repeated by popular demand with the audience which the cast was shocked and had a joke about it and ended up repeating it around 6 - 7 times which the last song the audience had to join in and do the actions with the Cast!
Scott Armstrong played as a Beast but from the start he was so horrible to Bell and John Madame Fifi and Maurice but the Beast suddenly become a very handsome Beast who of course falls for the gorgeous Bell, played by Lisa Ambalavanar. These two are well matched in every way, and especially when they duet during the Ball... I won't give away the song they sing but it was amazing.
We still have the kids from the audience but only 2 kids were allowed due to socially distanced but they had their own bit of stage and microphone, so abiding by all the rules put into place, and there is still the audience sing song, so much of the traditional panto fare we have come to love is still in there, just carefully positioned.

There still be a chance to see the show On Demand for the people who still worrying about going to the Theatre as you can still enjoy watching magical panto that you will never forget you can do this from Monday 13th December 2021.

Overall, this panto was a huge success! It brought a lot of laughter to me and the rest of the audience.
All together, I would rate this panto a 5 stars as this is fun for all the family!
